Many people love big dogs, they are lovable, cuddly, and make great guard dogs. One of the most personably and spirited breeds of giant dog is the great dane.
These beast make wonderful family pets. Here are a couple of reasons that a great dane may be the perfect animal for your family.
First great danes love their family more than just about any other breed of dog. They love to be with their people and become very attached. They are great with kids and are tolerant of small children poking, prodding and doing all of the silly things kids do.
Great danes, despite their size are very good indoor dogs. They are some of the best dogs you can have in an apartment for a couple of reasons. First they are fairly lethargic when they are inside. I find that after they calm down they are happy to lay around for hours. But when you let them out they have great stamina. The point being, that they will match their owners temperament. They are also a short haired breed which is easy to groom and does not carry much dirt.
Giant dogs as a whole don’t make nearly as much noise as smaller dogs. A couple barks is usually sufficient from a large dog as opposed to incessant yapping from smaller dogs. One thing is certain, when a large dog barks you know it means business.
If you want an animal that will make a would be burglar steer away a great dane can be a very menacing sight. Weighing in at up to 180lbs an intruder will normally choose an easier target after they have sighted a great dane.
If you are considering a giant dog but are uncertain about weather not it would work in your family, I will warn you that they are a commitment. But, I would also not ever own any other type of dog.
