Hey there and welcome to this Nintendo classic The New Super Mario Bros review. I have played a lot of 2D side scrolling platform video games in my time and this game is right up there with the cream of the crop folks.
I would lie to you and say that I bought this game for my kids, but that’s a lie. I bought it for me. And I love it. I have a few niggling issues with it, but mostly it is my favorite Wii game after Mario Galaxy.
The first thing I want to talk about is the issues that I have. The fact that this game is focused on the multiplayer yet has completely neglected any kind of online play is confusing to the maximum. I really just cannot fathom why Nintendo have left out the online players. There are hundreds of thousands of players who could have gotten so much more form this game if there had only been an online section to it. You wouldn’t need to play with the family or with squads of friends for the full 4 player experience. You could just have gone online and had the experience there. Of course playing with the family is much more social , but the game would have been much more complete with the online, and so I have to take a couple of points away for no online mode.
Onto the good, and there is plenty of it, even though I thrash the game for no online. New power ups include a penguin suit, a propeller suit and an ice flower so that you can freeze your foes, turn them into ice statues that can be picked up and thrown at other enemies to kill them.
