Different Types of Water and Skincare

June 18, 2011.

Water is the best and most natural skincare product in the world. Water or moisture is essential to maintain vitality of skin cells and therefore is the best anti-aging product.

There are many different types of water such as mineral water, purified water and distilled water, etc. Which one is the best for skincare?

There are many impurities in water. When all these impurities are removed by distillation and deionization, such water becomes purified water. Because of the high solubility and appetence of purified water, it accelerates body metabolism and nourishes skin cells. But, many trace elements are removed during the distillation and deionization; therefore our body may lack these trace elements for prolonged drinking.

Electrolyzed water is one of the products of electrolysis (the decomposition of oxygen and hydrogen gas). People drink electrolyzed water because electrolyzed water destroys free radicals in test tube experiment. Free radical is the main cause of skin aging; it is unlikely to be destroyed by electrolyzed water in human body. Therefore, electrolyzed water is not recommended for drinking for beauty purpose.

Glacier ice melts to become glacier water. Glacier water is fresh and uncontaminated. It is rich in many different natural elements, for example lithium, strontium and metasilicic acid. We can obtain sufficient amount of trace minerals for a whole day if we drink 1.5 liter of glacier water. In addition, it helps facilitate blood circulation and increase skin elasticity.

Mineral water can be easily found in supermarket. Such bottled water can be natural or artificial ones. The bottled mineral water is usually artificial with only several types of minerals (usually potassium and magnesium) added. Therefore, artificial mineral water is really difficult to achieve the mineral balance of the natural ones.

It is believed that both natural and artificial mineral water are good for skin because they are rich in silica. Silica prevents wrinkle formation by strengthening spongy cells and elastin fibers. Other than drinking, you may cleanse your face with facial water.
