For those who lost important hours of sleep from back pain, a pillow top mattress is often the solution. This style is often recommended by chiropractors who specialize in correct posture and decreasing low back pain.
If the average person sleeps for 8 hours a night, that adds up to one-third of your life spent laying on a mattress! Spending that amount of time doing anything should be enjoyable, so it’s important to pick the right sleeping surface. Even if you don’t have symptoms now, a bed with extra padding on top can add to your general comfort and well-being while you sleep.
Almost every major bedding company offers a pillow-top model. While the discount chains may give you a great price, you often get a low-quality product that doesn’t last. One of good quality should last you between 5-15 years. A Serta pillow top mattress or a Simmons pillow top mattress are both high-quality brands that will last for many years.
How do you know which one is best for you (and your partner)? You definitely need to go to the store and lay on it to test it out. The better companies who sell mattresses have stores where you can go in and try out a variety of models before choosing. Take a few moments to lie down and see how you feel. Are all of the curves of your spine well supported. Do you sink in too deeply? Does it feel too firm or cause pain? Try laying on your side and ask all of the same questions again. If you or your partner feel any pain symptoms, you may want to avoid that model.
Many people have discovered that the underlying reason for their back problems was a bad sleeping surface. Something as simple as choosing a high-quality mattress with padding on top can often decrease or eliminate low back pain and improve the quality of your sleep.
