Beat Being Ripped off and Take Holidays in February

June 18, 2011.

Well, it’s coming around to that dreadful time of the year again when everybody is ripped off. No, I don’t mean Christmas time, or the New Year for that matter.

The day I mean is Valentine’s Day. This is when anybody who is anybody is given some emotional blackmail into taking their wives out for meals that would otherwise cost half as much as they do on any other day. Don’t get me wrong, I love to show my romantic side to my wife throughout the year and I have no desire not to do it on this day as well. But I tend to do things a little bit differently. As soon as the Christmas season is over I start to plan for my holidays in February.

There are several different reasons for this. The first, as I’ve already explained, is that I do not like to get ripped off, regardless of who is trying to rip me off. And particularly, I don’t like to get ripped off by my own people. Now, I know that restaurateurs have got to make a few quid but screw that, it’s not my problem.

The second reason is that I like to kill two birds with one stone at this time of the year. Holiday hotels are always going to be far cheaper during the off-peak season. So, my plan of attack is always to go to the Internet and search out some destinations in the sun. My wife and I both like to visit Spain at any time that we can do it.

So, it is always going to be the natural choice for a vacation. I book a beautiful hotel with the most romantic room that I can find. Then, once I have booked our flight, car rental, etc, I am ready to take my wife on a romantic and week-long festival of fun. You should see the huge big brown bag of brownie points that I get for doing this.
